Carbon. AI. Data Science

Dr Melanie Zeppel has over 20 years experience measuring and modelling forest and soil carbon and water, and is Manager, Natural Resources and Carbon Analytics at New Forests. She was selected to be one of the Superstars of STEM, by Science Technology Australia, (2023-2024 cohort). She was also awarded 2022 Women in AI: Agribusiness, for Machine Learning, as well as 2019 Scopus Researcher of the year, in sustainability, for her research in climate change. She has been awarded over $4.3 million in competitive funding, with over 60 peer-reviewed publications. 

Experience

Melanie’s multi-disciplinary research spans experimental design and modelling impacts of climate change, impacts of drought, temperature and CO2 on vegetation, soil, and carbon and water relations.

She enjoys conducting Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Predictive Analytics, Cluster Analysis, and gets delight from presenting complex results, in simple language to stakeholders.
