Superstars of STEM: 2023-2024
Superstars of STEM is an initiative run by Science Technology Australia, is a “game-changing Australian initiative to smash gender assumptions” about who can work in science, technology, engineering and maths. Since inception in 2017, it has raised the visibility of diverse role models featured in the media as experts in STEM. Open to women and non-binary people, and with two non-binary members in the 2023-2024 cohort, the program equips diverse STEM experts with advanced communication skills and opportunities - in the media, on stage and in schools. Melanie was selected to be in the 2023-2024 cohort.
Stanford University - World’s Top 2% Scientists: 2021
In 2021, Melanie was listed on the Stanford University updated list, that represents the top 2 per cent of the most-cited scientists across various disciplines, using citations, h-index, co-authorship-adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions, and a composite indicator.
Scopus Researcher of the Year -Sustainability: 2019
Dr. Zeppel was awarded the Scopus Sustainability Researcher of the Year, for her work addressing climate change and its impacts. Her work has advanced both fundamental and socially relevant understandings of how heat waves and drought have impacted forest mortality.
